Scientific Lead – Financial Governance

About the role

The Scientific Lead – Financial Governance will provide scientific guidance for research on forest governance, ensuring rigorous methods and high scientific standards. The role involves collaboration with CIFOR theme leaders and representation in national and global forums.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance and ensure research concepts meet up‑to‑date scientific standards.
• Collaborate with CIFOR theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise and coordinate publications and scientific communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists and students.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional and global forest governance forums.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with experience in collaborative natural resource management or social science research.
• Proven track record in budget management across multiple projects and successful resource mobilization.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) a plus.
• Experience working with multiple partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing countries.
