Social Media Strategist – Short‑Form Video Focus

About the role

States Newsroom is looking for a creative Social Media Strategist to lead a national‑scale short‑form video strategy. The role will shape how our non‑partisan news content reaches audiences on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute a comprehensive social‑media strategy for a 50‑state news organization.
• Oversee production of short‑form video news pieces that translate top stories into engaging visual content.
• Collaborate with the Communications Director, national content team, and editorial staff to identify trends and story opportunities.
• Guide state newsroom staff on social‑media best practices and help expand their presence on key platforms.
• Evaluate and integrate new tools and partnerships that amplify reach and impact.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience (minimum 6 years) in social‑media strategy and short‑form video production.
• Strong interest in politics, policy and nonprofit journalism.
• Demonstrated ability to attract and retain users across multiple social platforms.
• Excellent understanding of journalistic standards and non‑partisan reporting.
