Staff Design Engineer – Cloud Networking UX

About the role

Canonical is looking for a senior Staff Design Engineer to define and drive the UX strategy for its cloud networking products. You will design intuitive interfaces for complex networking concepts and work across both GUI and terminal‑based experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve UX strategy for cloud networking across Canonical’s portfolio.
• Design interfaces for VPCs, subnets, routing tables, security groups, load balancers and observability tools.
• Create and maintain design systems that scale across multiple products.
• Conduct user research with DevOps engineers, network admins, SREs and cloud architects.
• Build prototypes and high‑fidelity designs using Figma or similar tools.
• Mentor designers and contribute to Canonical’s design culture.

Required profile

• Exceptional academic record and a Bachelor’s degree in UX, Design, STEM or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of product/UX/interaction design experience with a strong B2B/enterprise portfolio.
• Deep understanding of cloud computing and networking fundamentals.
• Experience designing for developers, operations teams and CLI/GUI preferences.
• Self‑motivated, organized and comfortable in a distributed, remote‑first environment.
