UX Designer – Developer Experience

About the role

This role is remote within the EMEA region and focuses on designing and building tools that enable developers to create, package, and maintain software, especially in the open‑source space. You will collaborate with product managers and engineers to shape the future of developer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build tools that empower developers to build, package and maintain their own software.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define and improve the developer experience.
• Support complex products through design and UX heuristics.
• Evolve and evangelise design systems for consistency and efficiency.
• Understand the broader scope of work and its interconnected constraints.
• Support a working group to enable Canonical design’s horizontal efforts.

Required profile

• Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in User Experience, Design, STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative.
• Strong knowledge and passion for user experience, technology and design.
• Commitment to continuous learning, curiosity and scientific approach.
• Result‑oriented mindset with a drive to finish work and celebrate success.
• Confidence in user research practices.
• Engagement with the latest design research and innovation.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each).
