Technical Officer – Laboratory

About the role

The Technical Officer will support laboratory sample management, testing, and biosafety measures for patient diagnostics and epidemic‑prone diseases. The role involves daily analysis, documentation, and performance reporting within a public‑health laboratory setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in sample collection, packaging, and transportation, and coordinate quality testing with reference laboratories.
• Perform routine patient‑care testing, maintain equipment, and ensure quality assurance and staff competence.
• Monitor and request laboratory supplies and PPE to prevent stock‑outs.
• Implement QMS, SOPs, and job aids for testing and equipment maintenance.
• Conduct biosafety and waste‑management procedures in line with MoH guidelines.
• Retrieve laboratory results promptly, monitor turnaround time, and compile national Ebola reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology, microbiology, biomedical sciences or related field.
• Registration with a professional regulatory body (e.g., Allied Health Professionals Council).
• Hands‑on experience in a clinical, research or public‑health laboratory.
• Interest in public‑health systems, health security and laboratory networks.
