WASH Officer (Temporary, 3 months) – Arua, Uganda

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a WASH Officer for a three‑month emergency assignment in Arua, Uganda. The officer will support rapid delivery of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and infection prevention and control (IPC) services to communities affected by the Ebola outbreak in the West Nile region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing UNICEF’s emergency WASH and IPC response, including procurement of supplies and coordination of service delivery.
• Strengthen coordination mechanisms with government bodies, UN agencies, NGOs and district authorities to ensure a coherent response.
• Develop and deliver capacity‑building tools, assessments, templates and training for partners working in WASH emergencies.
• Monitor programme implementation, identify gaps, support corrective actions and produce regular progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Public Health Engineering, Public Health, Environment, Behaviour Change Communication, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene or a related field.
• Minimum two years of experience in construction of WASH facilities, programme management, water and environmental sanitation, emergency response, coordination or infection prevention and control.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of an additional UN language or a local language is an asset.
