Business Development Officer - Agriculture

About the role

Britam Uganda is seeking a Business Development Officer to expand its agricultural insurance portfolio. The role will focus on identifying and converting opportunities across the agricultural value chain, building strategic partnerships and ensuring high‑quality service to farmers and related stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an agriculture business‑development plan aligned with premium, revenue and profitability targets.
• Identify, prospect and convert insurance opportunities across crop, livestock, aquaculture, forestry and related value chains.
• Build and manage relationships with farmers’ organisations, cooperatives, agribusinesses, banks, SACCOs, micro‑finance institutions, input suppliers, government agencies and development partners.
• Maintain a robust pipeline, provide accurate forecasts on premium income, conversion and renewal performance.
• Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, claims, risk and reinsurance teams to design and price customer‑centred insurance solutions.
• Prepare and submit quotations, proposals, tenders and partnership agreements.
• Provide product and technical support to branches, agents, brokers and bancassurance partners to improve lead generation, conversion and retention.
• Conduct market research and value‑chain analysis to identify emerging risks, customer needs and climate‑resilience opportunities.
• Coordinate client onboarding, policy issuance, premium collection, renewals and service follow‑up.
• Monitor portfolio performance, including premium growth, loss ratios and profitability, and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with at least 3 years of relevant business‑development experience, preferably in agricultural insurance or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of agricultural value chains and stakeholder ecosystems.
• Proven ability to build and manage strategic partnerships.
• Excellent analytical and forecasting skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
