Electrician – Maintenance & Repair for US Navy Program

About the role

The Electrician will provide a broad range of electrical maintenance, repair and construction support for a unique US Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia. The role includes inspection, testing of distribution systems and fault finding on circuits while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify life, health, and safety (LHS) issues and repair circuit faults on electrical systems.
• Install, maintain, repair or replace electrical equipment and systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
• Select appropriate materials for specific installations and complete accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Follow all safety rules, wear required personal protective equipment and keep work areas clean and hazard‑free.
• Oversee the electrical work of assigned personnel to ensure compliance with standards.
• Maintain electrical tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• At least two years of experience as an Electrician Helper.
• Physically fit to stand, bend for long periods and lift up to 50 lb.
• Willingness to work in remote, potentially uncomfortable conditions with long hours and exposure to weather.
• Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English (preferred).

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of residual current devices and over‑current protective devices.
• Understanding of the National Electric Code (or similar national standard).
• Familiarity with alternating current (AC) theory, motors, starters and transformers.
• Ability to perform circuit fault finding and electrical testing.
• Proficiency in installing, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment.
