Head of Card Acquiring

About the role

We are looking for a senior leader to head Absa Bank Uganda’s card acquiring business. The role will drive growth, profitability and operational excellence across merchant acquiring, ATM acquiring and digital acceptance solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the acquiring strategy aligned with the bank’s payments and transaction banking objectives.
• Lead acquisition, onboarding, retention and growth of merchant relationships across POS, e‑commerce, QR, SoftPOS, Wallet on POS and payment gateway solutions.
• Drive revenue and profitability targets for merchant acquiring, ATM acquiring and digital payment acceptance.
• Expand the bank’s acceptance footprint and increase transaction volumes through new market opportunities and customer segments.
• Manage relationships with card schemes, regulators, other banks, suppliers and industry bodies.
• Own the acquiring P&L, develop pricing models, business cases and investment plans.
• Monitor portfolio performance and implement initiatives to improve financial returns.
• Oversee key projects to ensure delivery of agreed obligations and business programmes.
• Engage with customers on commercial, technical, operational and marketing matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading an acquiring business or similar payments function.
• Strong understanding of merchant acquiring, ATM acquiring and digital acceptance channels.
• Track record of delivering revenue and profitability targets.
• Ability to manage stakeholder relationships with card schemes, regulators and industry partners.
