Head of Graduate Studies and Research

About the role

The International University of East Africa seeks a senior academic leader to head its Graduate Studies and Research portfolio. This full‑time position will shape postgraduate programmes, drive research excellence and enhance graduate outcomes across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the development, review and launch of postgraduate programmes in line with the university’s strategic priorities.
• Lead quality assurance, accreditation and continuous improvement of graduate programmes.
• Oversee postgraduate admissions, ensuring compliance with entry requirements and academic standards.
• Strengthen the university’s research profile by promoting strategic research areas, collaborations and innovation among staff and students.
• Organise seminars, conferences, workshops and other forums to foster a vibrant research culture.
• Develop and support post‑doctoral initiatives, including fellowship programmes where appropriate.
• Design and implement the university’s graduate tracer‑study framework, analyse findings and produce reports to inform curriculum review and employability strategies.
• Participate as a senior management team member, contributing to institutional planning and policy development.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with a strong research and postgraduate teaching background.
• 3–5 years of experience in a senior academic or management leadership role with supervisory responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience in postgraduate programme development, research leadership or academic administration.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills.
• Strong ICT competence and ability to use digital academic management systems.
