Transport Manager (Freight Forwarding Operations)

About the role

AGL, Africa Global Logistics, a multimodal logistics operator part of the MSC Group, is looking for a Freight Forwarding Operations Transport Manager in Kampala. The role leads the Transport function, including fleet operations, drivers, workshop and subcontracted transport, and is a full-time permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Transport function, including Fleet Operations, Drivers, Workshop and Subcontracted Transport.
• Develop and improve transport and logistics services in line with market requirements, operational capacity, profitability and business needs.
• Monitor fleet performance and utilisation, including truck turnaround time, number of trips, on-time deliveries and service quality.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor cargo deliveries and collections across local and cross-border operations.
• Manage relationships with internal departments, clients and stakeholders, and oversee fleet tracking, journey management plans and delivery documentation.
• Manage subcontracted transport, including transporter selection, rate negotiation, performance monitoring, safety and contractual compliance.
• Oversee workshop operations, including preventive maintenance planning, spare parts, tyres, oils and lubricants, stock control and procurement.
• Monitor fleet and workshop costs, use fleet and workshop management systems such as MAXIMO, and work with QHSE on safety compliance and audit recommendations.
• Prepare regular operational and performance reports, implement corrective actions and lead, coach and develop the Transport team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years managing transport or fleet operations, preferably a fleet of more than 25 trucks.
• Strong knowledge of transport operations in Uganda and the wider East African region.
• Knowledge of URA customs procedures and cross-border transport requirements.
• Experience supervising and managing operational teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Experience with fleet management and tracking systems; knowledge of Telematix or similar is an advantage.
• Strong communication, reporting and administrative skills.
