Accountant – Financial Management & Compliance

About the role

We are looking for an Accountant to manage the full spectrum of financial operations for SMARTEC ELECTRONICS LTD in Kampala. The role involves maintaining accurate books, handling tax compliance, and supporting inventory and cash management.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger, income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
• Process sales, purchases, expenses, inventory movements and journal entries.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Own the accounting system (QuickBooks, Tally, Zoho Books or similar) ensuring timely data entry.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, reconcile supplier and customer accounts and support the sales team.
• Maintain inventory valuation and landed‑cost calculations for electronic appliances.
• Conduct daily bank reconciliations, cash‑flow forecasting and petty‑cash management.
• Ensure timely filing of VAT, corporate tax, PAYE, WHT and NSSF and support tax audits.
• Recommend and implement internal controls and process improvements.

Required profile

• Entry‑level qualification with up to 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax regulations and statutory reporting requirements.
• Familiarity with inventory and landed‑cost accounting for imported goods.
• Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
