Accounts Officer

About the role

The Accounts Officer will be responsible for processing all financial transactions of the SACCO, maintaining accurate general‑ledger records, and ensuring timely payroll and loan accounting. The role supports member account integrity and statutory compliance within a fast‑moving cooperative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process member deposits, withdrawals, loan disbursements, repayments and supplier payments, recording each transaction in the SACCO accounting system.
• Prepare and post journal entries, payment and receipt vouchers in line with approved procedures.
• Maintain ledgers, cashbooks, journals and supporting schedules, ensuring all documents are authorized and audit‑ready.
• Perform monthly bank and control‑account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and keep a reconciliation schedule.
• Prepare and issue member statements and respond to finance‑related queries.
• Execute monthly payroll, calculate PAYE, NSSF and other statutory deductions, and file returns before deadlines.
• Maintain complete loan accounting records, including disbursements, repayments, interest and related entries.
• Escalate posting errors, unusual balances or unsupported transactions to the SACCO Accountant promptly.

Required profile

• Mid‑level accounting experience – at least 24 months in a similar role.
• Familiarity with SACCO financial processes and member account management.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines for payroll, statutory filings and reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
