About the role
The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire‑fighting and emergency response vehicles, including ARFF trucks, ambulances, and associated heavy equipment. The role ensures that all apparatus are safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire vehicles and equipment, including structural ARFF and ambulance apparatus.
- Conduct heavy‑equipment tasks such as engine removal, hydraulic and pneumatic system overhaul, and preventive maintenance.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using computerized test equipment, gauges, and calibration devices.
- Repair air‑conditioning systems, rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and replace seals, bearings, axle brakes, and crane rigging.
- Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Document work orders, invoices, and equipment repair records.
- Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of the supervisor.
- Perform recovery operations and other duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military, or tactical environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.
- Prefer certification such as EVT Level 1 or ARFF Technician tracks.
- Ability to work physically demanding tasks, lifting up to 50 lb regularly and up to 100 lb occasionally.
Required skills
- Diesel engine repair and overhaul.
- Hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical system diagnostics.
- Use of computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Air‑conditioning system repair.
- Rebuilding hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions.
- Seal, bearing, axle brake replacement and crane rigging.
- Reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, ASME, OEM standards.
