Social and Environmental Safeguards Officer

About the role

The Social and Environmental Safeguards Officer will support UNDP Uganda’s new Country Programme (2026‑2030) by ensuring that all interventions respect UNDP’s safeguard policies and contribute to sustainable development goals. The role is based in Kampala and works closely with government agencies, partners and project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on social and environmental safeguards for programme activities.
• Conduct safeguard assessments, monitor compliance and prepare related reports.
• Integrate safeguard requirements into project design and implementation plans.
• Liaise with national authorities, NGOs and UN partners to coordinate safeguard actions.
• Support capacity‑building initiatives for staff and partners on safeguard standards.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with at least two years of experience in social or environmental safeguard implementation.
• Familiarity with UNDP safeguard policies and the UN system is preferred.
• Ability to work in Uganda, with strong analytical and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of social impact assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of environmental impact assessment methodologies.
