Accountant III

About the role

Water Mission International is seeking an Accountant III to join its finance team in Kampala. The role involves managing the full spectrum of accounting and financial management activities, ensuring compliance with international and local reporting standards while supporting the organization’s mission-driven projects.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process payment requests, vendor invoices, staff advances, journals and other transactions, ensuring correct coding to accounts, projects, donor funds and departments.
• Post transactions accurately in the accounting system within established timelines.
• Maintain organized financial records and ensure supporting documentation is complete, authorized and policy‑compliant.
• Prepare monthly bank, mobile‑money, cash and vendor reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding items.
• Monitor long‑outstanding balances, take corrective actions and keep reconciliation schedules up to date.
• Support audit compliance by ensuring proper documentation and adherence to internal controls.

Required profile

• Strong Christian faith aligned with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values.
• University degree in accounting or finance; professional certification such as ACCA, CPA (U) or equivalent.
• At least three years of experience in financial management, with knowledge of International GAAP, IPSAS and local reporting standards.
• Fluent English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated integrity, analytical ability and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
• Familiarity with financial and accounting information systems.
