Commissioning Instrument & Control Specialist

About the role

The Commissioning Instrument & Control Specialist will support the safe and efficient pre‑commissioning, commissioning, start‑up and performance testing of a Central Processing Facility in Africa. Reporting to the Commissioning Instrument Superintendent, the role oversees instrument and control activities to meet plant production targets and contractual obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise pre‑commissioning checks, repairs and refurbishment of instrument equipment.
• Lead commissioning activities, including test runs and performance tests for instrumented systems.
• Execute the Loop Testing program and validate control philosophies, cause‑and‑effect diagrams and interlock logic.
• Support functional safety verification, including SIL validation, HIPS, SIS and ESD testing.
• Coordinate and verify DCS/PLC/ESD/FGS system logic, reviewing control narratives, shutdown sequences and interlock functions.
• Record completion of instrument/control tasks and hand over documentation to the Systems Completion team.
• Participate in walk‑down inspections, punch‑listing and reinstatement of instrument systems.
• Plan daily activities based on schedule, procedures and available work fronts, and liaise with the E&I subcontractor.

Required profile

• Proven experience in instrument and control commissioning on large‑scale process facilities.
• Ability to supervise technicians and manage on‑site activities safely.
• Strong understanding of functional safety standards and verification processes.
• Excellent collaboration skills with project teams and clients.
