Dental Surgeon

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Dental Surgeon to join the Faculty of Health Sciences at Makerere University in Kampala. The successful candidate will deliver both emergency and routine dental care, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the development of clinical policies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform emergency and non‑emergency dental procedures, including extractions, restorations and dental implant placements.
• Diagnose, treat and manage general oral diseases and provide preventive oral health education to patients.
• Maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health record system, documenting diagnoses, treatments and referrals.
• Coordinate referrals and follow‑up with specialist consultants for complex cases.
• Supervise and train dental auxiliary staff, ensuring adherence to best‑practice techniques.
• Develop and review clinical policies and guidelines to improve patient care.
• Undertake any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree.
• Registration and licensure with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
• Valid practicing license.
• Minimum three years of clinical experience in dental practice.

Required skills

• Dental surgery and oral disease management.
• Dental implant case diagnosis, treatment planning and long‑term follow‑up.
• Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for patient documentation.
