Electrical Engineer – Solar, BESS & Power Systems

About the role

Kweli Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its engineering team in Kampala. You will work on the design, optimisation and delivery of integrated solar, battery storage and hybrid power systems for commercial, industrial and residential clients across East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Design, review and optimise power systems, including solar PV, BESS and hybrid configurations.
• Conduct site assessments, load studies and technical surveys.
• Develop electrical distribution, protection, cabling, earthing schemes and system integration documents.
• Prepare single‑line diagrams, layouts, schematics, BOQs and other technical documentation.
• Select equipment, size systems and perform engineering calculations.
• Supervise installation, ensure quality control, conduct testing and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot faults, analyse issues and implement corrective engineering solutions.
• Support system upgrades, retrofits and performance optimisation.
• Prepare technical proposals, project plans and conduct engineering reviews.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, contractors, suppliers and clients throughout project delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong foundation in electrical power and power systems.
• Practical experience in electrical design, installation, testing, commissioning or system optimisation.
• Ability to interpret and develop professional engineering drawings and documentation.
• ERB registration or demonstrable progress toward professional registration preferred.
• Relevant ERA Electrical Installation Permit is an advantage.
