Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager manages all engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, including the building, grounds and physical plant, with particular attention to safety, security and asset protection. The role also covers the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, energy conservation and regulatory compliance, and assists in leading the emergency response team for facility issues.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems, and ensure compliance with facility regulations and safety standards.
• Control heat, light and power and recommend energy-conservation methods; develop specifications for service contracts and administer them.
• Distribute preventive maintenance and repair work orders and monitor their timeliness and quality.
• Oversee maintenance of grounds, guestrooms, public spaces, restaurants, vehicles and recreational facilities, and build a long-term preventative maintenance and asset protection plan.
• Develop project plans for renovation or new construction, contact contractors for bids and supervise construction within budget.
• Build relationships with external customers such as the city building and zoning department, fire prevention bureau and vendors, and brief the fire crew on procedures, equipment and alarms.
• Perform monthly property inspections, inspect guest rooms and common areas, and arrange repairs, renovations and equipment purchases.
• Maintain current building and equipment licenses and certifications, and keep life safety systems (fire fighting, sprinklers and alarms) operational.
• Lead guest hospitality, review guest feedback and drive improvements in guest satisfaction.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics or a related major.
• 3 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related field, or 1 year of experience after a 2-year degree.
• Technical training in HVAC-R, electrical or plumbing.
