About the role
The Field Audit & Investigations Specialist is a temporary hybrid position based in Kampala, combining on‑site fieldwork with limited work‑from‑home flexibility. The role involves conducting financial and operational field audits, verifying transactions and supporting documents, and assessing internal controls for NGOs, donors and private‑sector clients. It also includes investigations of suspected fraud or irregularities and preparation of clear, actionable reports.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct financial and operational field audits across client sites.
- Verify transactions, supporting documentation and assess internal control effectiveness.
- Investigate suspected fraud or irregularities, gather and analyse evidence.
- Prepare structured audit and investigation reports with findings and remediation recommendations.
- Review financial statements, ledgers and perform compliance and due‑diligence checks on partners and sub‑grantees.
- Document results in audit reports and communicate observations to clients and internal teams.
- Collaborate with consulting team members to improve audit and investigation methodologies.
Required profile
- Strong analytical ability to interpret data, identify patterns and assess risk.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Solid understanding of finance principles and experience with financial management in organisational settings.
- Ability to read, interpret and evaluate financial statements for accuracy and compliance.
- Auditing experience, including field audits, internal controls assessment and compliance reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field; professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, CFE) are a plus.
- Experience in financial forensics, investigations or due‑diligence work with NGOs, donors or private‑sector entities.
- High ethical standards, discretion and integrity when handling sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently in the field, manage multiple assignments and adapt to diverse client environments.
- Proficiency with standard office and accounting software and willingness to travel within Uganda and the region.
