Head of Workplace IT

About the role

M-kopa is seeking a senior leader to own and scale Workplace IT across multiple African markets. You will be responsible for the technology, services and vendors that keep over 2,500 employees productive in offices, warehouses, retail sites and call centres.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain wired and wireless networks, telephony and end‑user compute for 5 offices, 4 warehouses, 100+ retail sites and 10 call centres.
• Manage on‑prem infrastructure including server rooms, power, cooling, physical security and CCTV.
• Oversee full lifecycle management of laptops, desktops, phones and mobile device management for a distributed workforce.
• Lead identity and access management – directory, SSO, MFA, joiner/mover/leaver processes and application recertification.
• Drive vendor negotiations, budget ownership (OPEX & CAPEX) and cost discipline for connectivity, hardware and SaaS contracts.

Required profile

• Proven leadership of a multi‑site IT function at scale, preferably across several countries.
• Strong commercial and vendor‑management experience with ISPs, telcos, hardware suppliers and SaaS/MSP contracts.
• Security‑focused mindset with experience in identity, endpoint and network security.
• Comfort operating in high‑growth, emerging‑market environments with variable connectivity.
• User‑focused approach, collecting feedback and improving service performance.

Required skills

• Wired and wireless network design and monitoring.

• Endpoint management and Mobile Device Management (MDM).
• Identity platforms – directory services, Single Sign‑On, Multi‑Factor Authentication.
• IT security hygiene – patching, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, hardening.
• Business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
