Junior Product Actuary

About the role

Old Mutual is hiring a Junior Product Actuary in Kampala, Uganda. The role is the local actuarial focal point for product-related activities, managing and validating product data, supporting product pricing and analysis, coordinating local product documentation and regulatory submissions, and helping build sustainable actuarial product capabilities. It links local and regional actuarial teams so that product initiatives are based on accurate data, sound analysis and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate local data collection and validation for product pricing and performance monitoring in Uganda.
• Run pricing models and calculators for Uganda product initiatives under the guidance of the Senior Actuarial Assistant and the EA Product Actuary.
• Support preparation of Uganda-specific product approval documentation, including internal approval packs and regulatory submissions.
• Assist the Actuarial Manager – Uganda in incorporating product changes into valuation and IFRS17 processes where relevant.
• Document local processes and help build a sustainable Uganda product actuarial knowledge base.
• Produce or support local product performance management information in line with East Africa standards.
• Ensure adherence to compliance, anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions policies, including customer due diligence, KYC and ongoing due diligence, and escalate suspected breaches to the Risk and Compliance Office.

Required profile

• Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
• 0-3 years of actuarial or analytics experience; Uganda insurance or pensions experience is advantageous.
• Progress in actuarial examinations preferred.
• Comfortable working in a matrix reporting environment (regional and local).
