About the role
The Department of Pharmacy at Makerere University is seeking a dedicated Technician to support laboratory operations, teaching activities, and resource management. This full‑time position plays a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the unit’s practical sessions and maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Key responsibilities
- Generate reports, inventories and orders for the unit.
- Prepare budgets and monitor the use of physical resources.
- Manage laboratory equipment, facilities and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Requisition, maintain and account for financial and other resources.
- Prepare and supervise student practical sessions.
- Provide support to academic staff in delivering practicals.
- Implement and maintain quality‑assurance guidelines.
- Induct and mentor junior staff on technical skills.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Food Science, Industrial Chemistry, Analytical Sciences or related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience.
- Additional advantage for candidates with a Diploma in Pharmacy, experience in analytical laboratories, medicine manufacturing, or quality assurance roles.
Required skills
- Proficiency in operating laboratory machines.
- Computer proficiency for data handling and reporting.
