Physiology Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Department of Physiology at Makerere University is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to support teaching and research activities. This full‑time position involves managing laboratory resources, supervising student practicals, and ensuring a safe, high‑quality work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Generate reports, inventories and orders for the unit.
• Prepare budgets and monitor the use of physical resources.
• Manage laboratory equipment and facilities, ensuring proper maintenance and availability.
• Compile regular reports and inventories of consumables and equipment.
• Requisition, maintain and account for financial and other resources.
• Prepare and supervise students’ practical sessions.
• Provide support to academic staff in delivering practical components of courses.
• Participate in departmental research projects to improve best practices.
• Implement and maintain quality‑assurance, safety and regulatory guidelines.
• Induct and mentor junior staff on technical procedures.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Science Laboratory Technology or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant experience in physiology practicals and experimental procedures.
• Mid‑level professional with proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Laboratory equipment operation.
• Computer usage for data entry and reporting.
