Procurement Officer

About the role

The Procurement Officer will support Makerere University’s procurement processes, ensuring efficient acquisition of goods and services for the college and its units. Reporting to the Contracts Committee, the role combines secretarial support, supplier liaison, and coordination with finance to maintain smooth operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide secretarial services to the Sub‑Contracts Committees.
• Gather and compile procurement requirements from end‑users across college units.
• Guide suppliers through university procurement procedures.
• Verify and organize procurement documentation for easy access.
• Prepare periodic reports for the Contracts Committee and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA).
• Coordinate with the Accounts department to confirm availability of funds and ensure timely payments to suppliers, consultants, and contractors.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Procurement, Purchasing, Supplies and Chain Management, or a professional qualification such as CIPS.
• Alternatively, an honors Bachelor’s degree in Procurement or Purchasing.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience at an Assistant Officer level.
