Project Officer – WASH (OCHA) – Uganda

About the role

The Project Officer will support the implementation of WASH activities funded by OCHA in the refugee settlements of Kiryandongo, Palorinya and Rhino Camp. Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the role ensures that water supply, sanitation and hygiene interventions are delivered on time, within budget and to donor standards.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor WASH activities according to the approved workplan, budget and donor requirements.
• Conduct field assessments of water sources, sanitation facilities and service gaps to inform technical planning and procurement.
• Supervise contractors, hand‑pump mechanics and community volunteers to guarantee quality and safety of installations.
• Support household latrine construction, faecal desludging, waste management and hand‑washing facility installation.
• Train and mentor water user committees, hygiene promoters and sanitation committees to promote community ownership.

Required profile

• Minimum diploma or degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Experience working on WASH projects in humanitarian or refugee‑camp settings.
