Sector Manager – Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth Protected Area

About the role

The Ishasha Sector Manager will lead daily operations of the Ishasha sector within the Queen Elizabeth Protected Area (QEPA), under the collaborative management partnership between WCS and the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Reporting to the Steering Committee, the manager will oversee resource allocation, ensure alignment with strategic priorities, and build a high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the Sector Management Unit (SMU), supervising administrative, operational and technical teams.
• Develop and implement a Sector Management Plan aligned with the QEPA General Management Plan, including annual workplans and budgets.
• Conduct monthly SMU meetings to coordinate planning, prioritisation and information sharing.
• Motivate staff, manage performance, and foster a culture of professionalism and accountability.
• Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports, workplans and budgets to the Steering Committee.
• Serve as secretariat for Steering Committee meetings.
• Support proposal development, donor reporting and compliance.
• Implement monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks.
• Promote a human‑rights‑based approach to conservation.
• Identify and manage operational risks, ensuring contingency plans for security, finance and logistics.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing protected‑area or conservation programmes.
• Strong leadership and team‑management capabilities.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple partners and stakeholders.
• Experience preparing strategic plans, budgets and donor reports.
• Knowledge of risk assessment and contingency planning.
