Senior Specialist – VAS Operations (SMS/USSD)

About the role

The Senior Specialist – VAS Operations will ensure fault‑free operation of MTN Uganda’s Value Added Services platforms, driving revenue growth and meeting key performance indicators for availability, reliability and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the second‑level escalation point for faults on SMSC and USSD platforms.
• Support service upgrades on VAS platforms in collaboration with senior engineers, planning and project management teams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve SMS and USSD related faults, including those affecting Mobile Money services.
• Configure new USSD products (codes, URLs) for partners.
• Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
• Prepare and present change requests for VAS nodes to the Change Management Board.
• Operate and maintain ancillary VAS nodes such as CRBT, MCA, Voicemail and MSDP.

Required profile

• First degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecom Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent; Master’s degree is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a medium‑to‑large telecom operator.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on experience with VAS platforms (SMSC, USSD, MCA, Voicemail, MSDP).
• Strong results orientation, credibility and collaborative mindset.
