Data Centre Power Management & Passive Design Engineer

About the role

Airtel Africa is seeking a Data Centre Power Management & Passive Design Engineer to ensure the reliability and efficiency of its core infrastructure across the continent. You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and improving passive systems that support our data centre operations.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse passive outages, perform troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and reporting.
• Conduct routine power audits, checks and generate reports.
• Implement and supervise preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Perform on‑site passive system inspections and maintain accurate documentation.
• Manage passive spares inventory at core locations and handle RFI for new equipment.
• Oversee redundant equipment removal, equipment documentation and rack‑level redundancy assurance.
• Review internal and external customer requests, manage access to core locations and monitor contractor performance against SLAs.
• Plan activities, conduct impact analysis, ensure quality assurance and conduct regular contractor performance visits.
• Support passive surveys, RFI processes and validate project BOQs.
• Identify, propose and implement OPEX reduction initiatives, PUE improvement projects and fuel management reporting.
• Ensure compliance with company processes, partner contracts, occupational health & safety standards and Tier‑3+ data centre standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (professional certification is a plus).
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in data centre, power management or passive infrastructure.
