Sonographer – Diagnostic Ultrasound Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Sonographer to join our health clinic in Namutumba, providing diagnostic ultrasound services to the community. The role involves performing obstetric, gynecological and general abdominal scans, interpreting results and supporting patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound scans (obstetric, gynecological, abdominal, and soft‑tissue) as requested by the Clinical Officer.
• Position patients, operate equipment safely, and obtain high‑quality images for accurate diagnosis.
• Interpret and document sonographic findings, flagging urgent or abnormal results for immediate action.
• Conduct antenatal scans, assess fetal wellbeing and collaborate with the maternal health team.
• Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment, ensuring infection‑control standards are met.
• Keep accurate records, manage imaging consumables, and submit regular statistics to the Clinic Manager.
• Provide compassionate, confidential care, including spiritual support when appropriate.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiography or Medical Imaging Sciences from an accredited institution.
• Valid registration and practicing licence with the Ugandan health regulatory body.
• Minimum two years of sonography experience, preferably in obstetric and general abdominal imaging within a primary‑care or community setting.
• Strong understanding of obstetric, gynecological and abdominal ultrasound techniques.

Required skills

• Proficient operation and troubleshooting of ultrasound equipment.
• Diagnostic image interpretation and report writing.
• Infection prevention and control practices specific to ultrasound procedures.
• Basic computer literacy for imaging documentation and record management.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and provide empathetic care.
