Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) – Down Syndrome Center

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Speech‑Language Pathologist to join the Down Syndrome Centre of Kampala. The role involves delivering assessment and therapy services to children and adults with Down syndrome, supporting their communication, speech clarity and swallowing needs.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments to identify individual needs.
• Design and deliver individual and group therapy sessions addressing speech sound disorders, language delays, fluency and swallowing difficulties.
• Collaborate with families, educators and healthcare professionals to create integrated intervention plans.
• Provide training and education to caregivers on communication strategies for use at home and in the community.
• Advocate for the communication rights of individuals with Down syndrome in educational and community settings.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions and progress in line with professional standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology.
• Valid professional license and registration.
• Experience working with individuals with Down syndrome or other developmental disabilities.
• Strong understanding of speech and language development in Down syndrome.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem‑solving abilities.
• Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to the Ugandan context.
