Apprentice - Infrastructure Support Specialist (6 Months Contract)

About the role

Absa Group Ltd is recruiting an apprentice Infrastructure Support Specialist in Kampala (Kamwokya) on a 6-month contract. The role covers server and platform support, test management, risk management and people development, with a focus on maintaining stable, secure and efficient IT infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Provisioning servers: install, upgrade, configure and troubleshoot them, schedule and review daily backups, and carry out routine maintenance of servers, workstations and network devices.
• Support IT system audits, monitor resource utilization and performance, and contribute to security measures such as access control and server configuration management.
• Ensure change management procedures are followed and support IT projects such as system migrations, upgrades and deployments.
• Supervise end-user hardware maintenance and implement information security guidelines.
• Test management: work with Release Analysts, review releases, run installation, functional, performance, integration and user acceptance tests, coordinate back-out and post-release testing, and compile and review test deliverables.
• Risk management: build a relationship with the country IT Risk and Governance team and help improve governance, risk, controls and compliance.
• People management: drive your own performance development, prepare for reviews, use a skills matrix to plan training and complete it within agreed timescales.

Required profile

• Degree classification of First Class or Second-Class Upper.
• O'Level results: Credit or higher in both Mathematics and English.
• A'Level results: at least two principal passes.
• Higher Certificate and Advanced National (Vocational) Certificate in Business, Commerce and Management Studies (required).
