Assistant Underwriter – Medical

About the role

The Assistant Underwriter – Medical will assess and evaluate medical insurance risks, ensuring underwriting decisions align with company guidelines, risk appetite and regulatory requirements. This role supports client relationships, credit control and the accurate processing of policy endorsements and invoices.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, intermediaries and healthcare service providers.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal underwriting guidelines.
• Implement effective credit control practices to minimise unpaid premiums.
• Process policy endorsements and invoices accurately and on time.
• Maintain complete and current insurance documentation in accordance with standards.
• Monitor renewal notices, coordinate with cross‑functional teams and drive renewal retention.
• Conduct regular visits with brokers, agents and corporate or individual clients.
• Manage accountable documents within the EDMS platform.
• Prepare premium calculations and bookings for pre‑rated products.
• Respond promptly to customer and intermediary queries and complaints.
• Support claims staff daily to ensure seamless client service.

Required profile

• Ability to assess and evaluate medical insurance risks.
• Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, regulatory frameworks and credit control processes.
• Strong client relationship and communication skills.
