Childcare Teacher – Part‑time Volunteer

About the role

We are seeking a part‑time Childcare Teacher to join the YMCA of Columbia‑Willamette in Kamwokya. Working under the Site Director and Lead Teacher, you will help create a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn and grow.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and delivering daily activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress and incident reports.
• Provide supervision during play, meals and rest periods, ensuring safety at all times.
• Support program aides and step in for program leads when needed.
• Participate in regional staff meetings, trainings (15 hours annually) and emergency response drills.

Required profile

• At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or 20 credit hours in Education or related field, or one year of experience in a licensed childcare setting.
• Ability to pass a YMCA background check.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain current CPR/First Aid and Food Handler certifications within 30 days of start.
• Physical ability to sit on the floor, stand for up to an hour, lift up to 50 lb and crouch as needed.
• Strong communication skills with children, parents and staff.

Required skills

• Current or obtainable CPR/First Aid certification.
• Food Handler certification.
