Commissioning Electrical HV/SAEP Engineer (Uganda)

About the role

McDermott is recruiting a Commissioning Electrical HV/SAEP engineer for a Central Processing Facility in Africa. Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the role supports planning and execution of safe and efficient pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and performance testing so that the plant meets its production and contractual objectives. The position is responsible for coordinating and implementing all high-voltage electrical energisation requirements on the project.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee pre-commissioning activities, including pre-energisation checks for HV electrical equipment, and repair and refurbishment of electrical equipment during commissioning and operations
• Manage commissioning of substation switchgear, HV/MV/LV power distribution, emergency power, power management systems, UPS and VFDs for test runs and performance tests
• Develop and implement an overall electrical energisation plan, and pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures and testing programmes for HV equipment and systems
• Liaise with equipment manufacturers and suppliers on pre-commissioning, commissioning and repair procedures
• Develop work plans, safe work practice procedures, and provide electrical input to the commissioning schedule, subcontracted scopes, spares, consumables and tools
• Liaise with the Systems Completion Manager on systemisation of single-line diagrams and validation of electrical data in the completions database
• Review pre-commissioning and commissioning dossiers in line with project requirements

Required profile

• Certified permit holder from the Ugandan Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA)
• Pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up experience as an electrical lead or equivalent on at least 3 major EPC projects in the oil and gas industry
• 5+ years of experience with HV/MV/LV equipment in the oil and gas industry
• Experience with GIS and 110+kV systems
• Familiarity with IEC, API, EEMUA, NEC and IEEE codes and standards
• Broad technical knowledge of construction and completion activities, and strong English (oral and written); second language is a plus

• Excellent organisational skills and adaptability to the needs of different disciplines
