Line Boring Technician

About the role

Q-Sourcing, a manpower management firm operating across East Africa, is recruiting a Line Boring Technician in Kampala on behalf of a client in the Oil & Gas sector. The technician performs on-site precision machining to repair and restore worn or damaged cylindrical bores in heavy construction and earthmoving equipment, using portable line boring machines and bore welding, so that repaired components meet OEM specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on-site line boring to repair worn or misaligned bores in excavators, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, backhoes and other construction machinery.
• Carry out bore welding and machining to restore bores to OEM specifications.
• Set up, align and operate portable hydraulic or electric line boring machines and related tooling.
• Take precision measurements with micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators and laser alignment tools.
• Interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals and specifications, and perform journal turning and flange facing when needed.
• Maintain and inspect line boring equipment and tools, and prepare technical reports for completed repairs.
• Work with mechanics, welders and maintenance teams and follow HSE regulations and safety standards.

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, Heavy Equipment Maintenance or a related field.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in line boring, machining or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Experience with portable line boring machines and welding equipment in construction, mining or heavy industry.
• Experience repairing earthmoving equipment such as excavators, loaders and dump trucks.

Required skills

• Precision machining and alignment skills.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with measurement and alignment tools.
• Ability to work independently in remote or field environments, with good communication and teamwork.
