About the role
The Data Manager / Programmer will design, develop and maintain clinical data management systems for Epicentre’s research projects in Uganda, Niger and other multi‑country studies. Reporting to the Data Management, IT and Compliance Coordinator, the role ensures high‑quality data collection in line with ICH‑GCP and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities
- Develop scripts and applications to automate quality‑control, data cleaning, validation queries, monitoring reports and reconciliation processes.
- Build and maintain import/export pipelines between clinical data platforms, laboratory systems, mobile data collection tools and statistical software.
- Program automated data validation checks, dashboards for data‑quality monitoring and tools for detecting missing or outlier data.
- Design and configure electronic case report forms and manage REDCap, OpenClinica, ODK, CommCare databases, including user roles, workflows and audit controls.
- Create automated study reports, KPI dashboards and standardized data exports for statistical analysis.
- Support server configuration, backup, disaster‑recovery and system performance monitoring, and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Maintain system validation documentation and ensure compliance with ICH‑GCP, GCDMP, GDPR and Epicentre SOPs.
- Evaluate new technologies, develop AI‑ready data pipelines and contribute to the digital‑transformation roadmap.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Health Informatics or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in software development, clinical data management or research informatics.
- Proven experience supporting clinical trials or epidemiological research in resource‑limited settings.
- Strong knowledge of ICH‑GCP, GCDMP and data‑protection regulations (GDPR).
- Fluent English (C1); French is an asset.
Required skills
- Advanced REDCap configuration and API management.
- Proficiency in R and Shiny application development.
- Python programming.
- SQL and relational database design.
- Version control with Git.
- Linux administration and Docker.
- REST API integration.
- Experience with ODK/Kobo, CommCare, OpenClinica, Power BI, GIS and DHIS2.
- Understanding of CDASH and SDTM standards.
