English Teacher – Upper Primary (PLE)

About the role

The Aga Khan Development Network is seeking an experienced English teacher for upper primary (PLE) classes in Kampala. You will create a positive learning environment, deliver curriculum‑aligned instruction, and support students in developing critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly classroom, monitor student appearance, attendance and punctuality.
• Plan and deliver daily lessons, assess student progress, and set homework in line with school policy.
• Foster a growth mindset by encouraging creativity, ethics, responsibility and respect.
• Collaborate with colleagues and regional PLCs to improve teaching practices and meet 21st‑century standards.
• Engage with parents through conferences and meetings, promoting the school’s image.
• Participate in professional development workshops and implement new teaching approaches.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or B.A. with PGDE.
• Minimum of 5 + years teaching experience on the relevant curriculum.
• Consistent record of classroom performance and student achievement.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the use of technology for teaching.
• In‑depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures.
• Thorough understanding of student‑centered pedagogical methods.
