Finance Apprentice – Freight Forwarding Operations

About the role

Africa Global Logistics (U) Limited, a subsidiary of the MSC Group and part of the AGL group of 250 subsidiaries, is hiring a Finance Apprentice for its freight forwarding operations in Kampala, Uganda. The position is a full-time fixed-term contract within the accounts payable, receivable, reporting and general accounting areas.

Key responsibilities

• Accounts payable: check invoices against purchase orders and supporting documents, follow up on pending approvals (target less than 2 days), track and resolve blocked or rejected invoices, and maintain accurate supplier documentation.
• Accounts receivable: support invoicing, ensure EFRIS compliance (TIN, FDN), follow up on cash customers before invoicing, assist in customer reconciliations (SOA vs SAP) and flag billing discrepancies.
• Reporting: prepare monthly financial reports, assist in variance analysis (budget vs actual), extract and validate data from SAP and keep financial and operational data consistent.
• General accounting and taxes: support monthly closing, accruals and prepayments, and assist in account reconciliations.
• SAP and internal controls: ensure accurate data entry and integrity in SAP, support data cleaning and migration, implement and monitor internal accounting controls under the Sapin 2 framework, maintain an audit trail, and help with control testing, gap remediation and risk escalation.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
• High attention to detail, organized and reliable.
• Proactive and willing to learn.

Required skills

• Strong Excel skills.
• Comfortable working with systems in an ERP environment.
