Gender Officer

About the role

The Gender Officer will lead gender‑focused interventions that promote equality, women’s empowerment and active participation in decision‑making among refugees and host communities in Uganda. The role supports the integration of gender considerations into agriculture, climate‑smart practices and community development projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor gender‑responsive activities within climate‑smart agriculture and environmental management programmes.
• Facilitate community trainings, dialogues and capacity‑building sessions with refugees, host community members, local authorities and cultural leaders.
• Address social norms and promote safe, inclusive environments for women and youth engaged in agricultural and climate adaptation efforts.
• Collaborate with donor agencies and international NGOs to ensure compliance with funding requirements and accountability standards.
• Collect, analyse and report gender‑disaggregated data to inform programme adjustments and advocacy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related field.
• Minimum three years of full‑time professional experience implementing gender‑focused programmes, preferably in agriculture, climate resilience or community development.
• Demonstrated experience working in northern Uganda or similar refugee‑affected contexts.
• Strong understanding of gender dynamics in rural and refugee settings.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
