Grain Handling Specialist – Kawempe

About the role

We are looking for a technically skilled Grain Handling Specialist to manage our commercial bulk silo and warehouse operations in Kawempe. The role focuses on preserving post‑harvest grain quality, operating climate‑controlled storage, and ensuring safety and compliance in a fast‑paced industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and adjust automated aeration systems to control humidity and temperature.
• Monitor temperature cables and internal silo microclimates to prevent condensation, heating, and aflatoxin development.
• Run, troubleshoot, and maintain bucket elevators, chain conveyors, and mechanical pre‑cleaners.
• Execute phosphine fumigation protocols, enforce moisture standards, and conduct continuous quality audits.
• Manage finished‑product and bagged inventory, enforce FIFO rotation, and optimize safe stacking limits.
• Enforce silo safety standards, including confined‑space entry, lockout/tag‑out, and dust‑explosion mitigation.
• Operate Bühler WinCos or similar SCADA systems to track material flow, equipment status, and bin levels.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Business, Food Science, or Agronomy (preferred).
• Technical training in agriculture or mechanics and a certificate from the Buhler African Milling School.
• Experience in grain handling, warehouse operations, or agricultural logistics.
• Ability to operate and maintain mechanical equipment in dusty, noisy, and variable weather conditions.
