Horticulturist / Gardener

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Horticulturist / Gardener to maintain and enhance the green spaces at our Kampala facility. The role involves daily plant care, landscaping, and ensuring a safe, attractive environment for staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Water, prune, fertilize and monitor health of flowers, trees, shrubs and lawns.
• Perform routine grounds work such as mowing, hedge trimming, edging, weeding and mulching.
• Assist in landscape design, seasonal planting, erosion control and beautification projects.
• Control weeds, pests and diseases using approved fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
• Operate, maintain and perform minor repairs on mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers and irrigation systems.
• Maintain accurate records of watering schedules, fertilisation and pest‑control treatments.
• Follow health, safety and environmental regulations and report any hazards.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Horticulture, Agriculture, Landscaping or related field (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related discipline is an advantage.
• Minimum 2–3 years practical experience in gardening, landscaping or groundskeeping, preferably in a corporate or institutional setting.
• Good knowledge of regional plant species and local pest challenges.

Required skills

• Operation of landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers).
• Irrigation system maintenance.
• Application of fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
• Plant health monitoring and disease/pest identification.
