House Parent - Boarding Students

About the role

Acorns International School (AIS) in Kamwokya, Kampala, is looking for a House Parent to supervise, care for, guide and support boarding students in the hostel. The role ensures students' safety, well-being, discipline and personal development during their stay.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise students and make sure they follow daily routines such as meals, personal hygiene, study time, recreation and bedtime.
• Monitor students' physical and emotional well-being, respond promptly to emergencies and report illnesses, accidents and safeguarding concerns.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, student movements, incidents, health concerns and disciplinary matters, and submit reports as required.
• Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about student welfare and escalate sensitive matters to the relevant school authorities.
• Protect students from abuse, bullying, neglect and other harm while keeping confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Keep the living environment clean, safe and orderly, and report maintenance, security and resource issues.
• Enforce school rules and boarding procedures fairly, promoting respect, responsibility and positive behaviour.
• Work closely with school management, teachers, heads of departments and other departments to support students' academic and personal development.

Required profile

• Diploma in Education or equivalent teaching qualification; a Bachelor's degree is an added advantage.
• Background in Counselling, Social Work, Child Development or a related field is an added advantage.
• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a boarding school or residential setting.
