HSSE Officer – Health, Safety, Social & Environmental

About the role

Asili Agriculture is seeking a proactive HSSE Officer to support health, safety, social and environmental initiatives across its agricultural sites in Uganda. You will work closely with field staff, supervisors and local stakeholders to ensure compliance with OHS and environmental regulations while fostering a culture of safety.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of OHS policies, conduct routine site inspections and monitor preventive controls.
• Document incident investigations, track corrective actions and maintain emergency response equipment.
• Deliver health and safety inductions, daily toolbox talks and coordinate safety training sessions.
• Gather data for OSH and NEMA regulatory reports, conduct preliminary audits and keep HSSE compliance records.
• Assist with site‑level environmental monitoring (waste, water, soil) and support social grievance mechanisms and community engagement.
• Provide technical HSSE guidance to field staff and coordinate daily safety responsibilities with site leads.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years HSSE experience, preferably in manufacturing or agriculture.
• Strong communication and reporting skills; proficiency in English.
• OHS qualification and familiarity with Uganda OSH regulations and NEMA requirements.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
• Behaviour‑Based Safety (BBS) training.
• Basic risk assessment techniques.
• Experience with environmental monitoring (waste, water, soil).
