Internal Auditor

About the role

Kray Microfinance, a micro-lending institution established in 2012 that provides cashflow-based lending to MSMEs across Uganda, is hiring an Internal Auditor based at its head office in Kampala. The role provides independent assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance across the branches, financial operations and digital channels, with regular travel to branches.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct risk-based audits of branches and head office operations, including surprise cash counts.
• Review loan appraisal, approvals, disbursements, collateral records, arrears and recoveries.
• Audit cash handling, bank reconciliations, ATM settlements and digital transactions.
• Assess expenditure, procurement, payroll, assets and accounting controls.
• Identify control weaknesses and fraud indicators and conduct authorised investigations.
• Prepare clear audit reports and verify implementation of agreed corrective actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant audit experience, preferably in microfinance or financial services.
• Certification such as CPA, ACCA or CIA, or progress towards one, is an advantage.
• Willingness to travel regularly to branches.

• High integrity, confidentiality and ability to work independently.
