Internal Motor Assessor

About the role

The Internal Motor Assessor will manage motor claims, accurately assess losses, and eliminate fraudulent or exaggerated claims. This role ensures cost‑effective, customer‑focused settlements in line with Old Mutual policies, underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Validate motor assessment reports and authorize repairs, ensuring correct pre‑accident values and policy compliance.
• Conduct first‑line inspections of reported accidents and post‑repair inspections within the assigned region.
• Value salvage and scrap parts, coordinate with disposal agents, and initiate third‑party recoveries.
• Identify and flag exaggerated, fictitious, or non‑accident‑related damages and adjust repair costs to market rates.
• Appraise garages, assessors and service providers for pricing, quality and integrity; recommend panel changes.
• Provide technical support to claims staff, underwriting and management on repair options, parts availability and settlement strategies.
• Prepare periodic reports on customer feedback, repair cost trends, salvage values and service provider performance.
• Ensure all assessments comply with national traffic/insurance regulations and internal procedures.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with at least 36 months of experience in motor claims assessment.
• Strong knowledge of national traffic and insurance regulations.
• Ability to detect and prevent fraudulent or exaggerated claims.
• Experience conducting vehicle inspections and valuations.
