Lead Medical Secretary

About the role

The Lead Medical Secretary will supervise a team of secretaries and administrative clerks, providing comprehensive support to clinicians to ensure efficient operation of clinical services.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise administrative team and ensure compliance with NHS Lanarkshire SOPs.
• Organise staff rotas and allocate daily work to maintain service levels.
• Arrange and re‑schedule clinical activities such as outpatient clinics and operating lists.
• Handle administrative tasks for clinicians, including booking appointments, arranging tests, and chasing diagnostic results.
• Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts or delays in results.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience as a medical secretary.
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology.
• Evidence of effective team working and communication with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
• Advanced audio typing skills.
