Occupational Health & Safety Officer

About the role

The Occupational Health & Safety Officer will support the UN Country Team in Uganda by implementing the health risk management recommendations of the UN Medical Directors. The role focuses on safeguarding UN personnel and their recognized dependents through preventive medical actions, medical evacuations and coordinated health interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor compliance with preventive medical actions and health risk management recommendations.
• Facilitate medical evacuations and coordinate health interventions with UN Medical Services.
• Provide occupational medical support for UN staff at field duty stations and their dependents.
• Coordinate response to outbreaks, pandemics and other health emergencies.
• Report to the Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative and the Chief of Medical Service.
• Ensure alignment with UN Medical Directors’ policies, guidelines and recommendations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in an international or humanitarian setting.
• Familiarity with UN health policies and duty‑of‑care responsibilities.
• Strong coordination and reporting abilities in multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency medical situations.

Required skills

• Occupational health assessment and risk management.
• Medical evacuation coordination.
• Emergency medical response planning.
• Knowledge of UN health guidelines and mandatory health support elements.
