About the role

The Operation Theatre In‑Charge is a full‑time, on‑site position responsible for overseeing daily operating theatre activities in Kampala. The role ensures surgical lists are coordinated, theatres are ready, and patient safety standards are upheld.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical lists and manage theatre schedules to minimise delays.
• Ensure readiness of operating rooms, equipment, and supplies.
• Supervise and mentor multidisciplinary theatre staff.
• Enforce clinical protocols, infection control, and regulatory guidelines.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives, incident reporting and documentation.

Required profile

• Strong leadership and team‑coordination abilities.
• Clinical expertise in peri‑operative care, sterile techniques and infection prevention.
• Organisational and planning skills for optimal resource utilisation.
• Effective communication with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and support staff.
• Problem‑solving skills for emergencies and equipment issues.

Required skills

• Sterile technique and infection control procedures.
• Use of hospital information systems for scheduling and reporting.
• Basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office).
